A directory that lives in files.
MacGuild is a curated directory of Mac apps. Every listing is a Markdown file in the repository; this website is one of the outputs generated from those files.
Why it exists
App Store charts and affiliate roundups optimize for volume. They rarely tell you what an app is for, whether it is open source, or which public page to trust.
Each entry here is a short, checked listing: category, tags, license when it is public, links, and curator notes. No invented prices, ratings, or download counts. No SEO spam and no affiliate dump.
How it's built
The source of truth is a folder of files: one Markdown record perapp, YAML for categories and other taxonomy, andgrove.config.ts for the site itself. Grove validates those files and publishes this website, a sitemap, and anllms.txt index.
There is no CMS and no runtime database. The production site is static HTML on a Cloudflare Worker. Open-source listings can pick up GitHub metadata on a sync; editorial judgment stays in the files.
How to contribute
Because the content is files, contributing is a pull request: add a Markdown record for a new app, fix a typo, or tighten the facts behind an existing listing. The submit page can draft a record from a repository URL. Listings are reviewed before they land.
